Curriculum Vitae Summary

Dr. Pedro Castro Borges has been a researcher at CINVESTAV-IPN, Mérida Unit, Yucatán, Mexico, since 1986. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering degree from the Autonomous University of Yucatán, a Ph.D. in Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and completed postdoctoral studies at the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Sciences in Madrid, Spain.

His main research areas include corrosion, durability, sustainability, and repair systems for reinforced concrete structures. Dr. Castro has received numerous national and international awards, including the Herbert H. Uhlig Award from NACE International (2006), the Juan Miguel Castro Martín Honor Medal (2006), the Heberto Castillo Award for Latin American Researchers (2007), the State Civil Engineering Award granted by the Society of Civil Engineers (2009), the Giraldilla Award for Scientists granted by the Government of Cuba (2013), the NACE Mexico Lifetime Achievement Award (2014), the ALCONPAT International Lifetime Achievement Award (2015), and the Corrosion Journal Best Paper Award (2017), among others.

He has chaired major international conferences and events, including CONPAT 2003, CONSEC 2010, GRC 2018, and the RILEM Annual Week 2021. Since 2011, he has served as Coordinator of the CINVESTAV Sustainable and Durable Infrastructure Laboratory located at the Yucatán Science and Technology Park, Mexico.

He is the author or co-author of more than 500 publications, including papers presented at national and international conferences, book chapters, books, articles in JCR-indexed journals, review papers, science dissemination articles, and technical reports. In addition, he has delivered more than 100 invited lectures at academic institutions and national and international events.

He has served as a member of international editorial boards and as a reviewer for specialized journals from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, China, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Venezuela. He is a member of NACE International, ASTM International, the American Concrete Institute (ACI), ALCONPAT International, and other distinguished academic associations.

He has been a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNII, Level 3) since 1991, the Mexican Academy of Sciences since 1999, and the Mexican Academy of Engineering since 2011.

He served as President of the Mexican Section of NACE International (1999–2001) and as President of ALCONPAT (Latin American Association for Quality Control, Pathology, and Construction Rehabilitation) during the 2001–2003 term. He is a Fellow of NACE International and ALCONPAT International, an Honorary Member of the Brazilian Concrete Institute (IBRACON), and an Honorary Member of the College of Civil Engineers of Paraguay.

He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Revista ALCONPAT and General Director of ALCONPAT International. He was also named Honorary President of RILEM in 2021.
