Dr. Castro works at CINVESTAV-IPN Unidad Merida, Yucatán, México since 1986 where he is researcher. He is Civil Engineer and M. Eng. from the Yucatán Autonomous University, he has a PhD in Engineering from the National Autonomous University of México and a posdoctorate in the Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences from Madrid, Spain. His main areas are corrosion, durability, sustainability and repair systems of reinforced concrete. Dr. Castro has won several national and international awards. Some of them are the Herbert Uhlig award from NACE International (2006), the Honor Medal Juan Miguel Castro MartÃn (2006), the Heberto Castillo award for latinamerican researchers (2007), the state award for Civil Engineers (Society of Civil Engineers, 2009), the Giraldilla award for scientists (Cuba government, 2013), award to trajectory (NACE México, 2014), award for international trajectory (ALCONPAT International, 2015), Best paper award (Corrosion Journal 2017) and others. Dr. Castro has been chairman of very important conferences: CONPAT 2003, CONSEC 2010, GRC 2018 and 2021 Rilem Annual Week. He is the coordinator of the Sustainable and Durable CINVESTAV at the Scientific and Technologic Park at Yucatán, México since 2011. He has authored or coauthored more than 500 publications in national and international congresses, book chapters, books, indexed JCR journals, review and diffusion articles, reports, etc. He has given more than 100 conferences as invited professor in several Institutions as well as in national and international events. He is or has been member of the international board of editors or referee of specialized Journals from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, China, México, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA and Venezuela. He is member of NACE, ASTM, ACI, ALCONPAT and other important academic associations. He is member of the National Research System (SNI, Level 3) since 1991, Mexican Academy of Sciences since 1999 and Engineering Academy since 2011. Dr. Castro is past president of the Mexican Section of NACE (1999-2001) and of ALCONPAT (Latinamerican association for quality control, pathology and repair of constructions) for the period 2001-2003. He is a Fellow of NACE International and Alconpat International, Honorary Member of the Instituto Brasileiro del Concreto and the College of Civil Engineers of Paraguay. He is Editor in Chief of the ALCONPAT Journal (revistaalconpat.org) and General Director of ALCONPAT-International (www.alconpat.org). Honorary President of RILEM, 2021.
